Medical Services

Physical Examinations and Vaccinations

The veterinarians at Weymouth Landing Cat Clinic recommend a complete physical examination for your cat at least once a year. In addition to annual exams, we offer health certificate exams, diet consultations and behavior consultations. We recommend vaccinations against Feline Distemper, Upper Respiratory Virus Complex, Feline Leukemia, and Rabies.

Complete diagnostic services and equipment

We provide a full range of diagnostic service (radiography, blood analysis, etc) and ancillary services to diagnose and manage all minor and major health problems. Ultrasound and endoscopy procedures are performed by specialists.

Fecal examinations for parasites

Fecal examinations are performed to detect microscopic gastrointestinal parasites, such as roundworms, hookworms, Giardia, coccidia and tapeworms. Some abnormal parasites known as spirochetes or flagellates can also be detected.

In order to perform a fecal examination, a fecal sample needs to be obtained. The easiest way to do this is to pick up a sample of feces after the pet has eliminated. Fresh samples give the most information.

X-Ray & Exam

General surgery and orthopedic surgical procedures

Our hospital is equipped to perform most minor and major surgical procedures from spays and neuters to more complicated orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries.

Dental prophylaxis and treatment of periodontal disease

Proper dental care is as important for your cat as it is for you. Dental care not only prevents bad breath and periodontal disease, but also prevents infection from spreading through your cat’s blood stream. A complete yearly examination of your cat’s teeth is recommended. We offer teeth cleaning, polishing and removal as needed.

Leukemia and FIV Testing

The feline leukemia (FeLV) and FIV test is a blood test used to detect exposure to or infection of one of these viruses. The feline leukemia test is often called the “Feleuk” test or abbreviated as "FeLV" test. The feline immunodeficiency virus test is also referred to as the FIV test or feline "AIDS" test. These tests can be run individually but are most commonly run together.

FeLV and FIV tests should be run on all cats with any concurrent illness or if a recent FeLV/FIV status has not been established. This test is also recommended on any new cat that is coming into the household.

Surgery & Lab

External parasite control

In highly allergic animals, the bite of a single flea can cause severe itching and scratching. Fleas cause the most common skin disease of cats – flea allergy dermatitis.

Elimination of fleas and preventing re-infestation are important for achieving a flea free environment. The flea products we recommend include Advantage, Revolution and Frontline.

Dietary counseling with a full line of prescription and premium diets

We carry a full line of Science Diet, Purina DM, IVD and Eukanuba general and prescription diets. Please ask one of our veterinarians or technicians for information regarding your cat’s nutritional needs.

Access to network of veterinary specialist for difficult cases

In our area, there are a large number of veterinary specialists and veterinary specialty hospitals from which to choose. If your cat requires a specialist, we will recommend the one that is best suited for his / her problem.

Microchipping

A microchip is a tiny electronic device, about the size and shape of a grain of rice. It is implanted beneath the cat’s skin between the shoulder blades, and stays there for the cat’s entire life. This procedure is as easy and as painless as a vaccination.

ach microchip has a unique number. This number, along with information about the owner and cat, are added to a national pet registry. Most veterinarians and animal shelters have electronic scanners for detecting and reading these implanted microchips. If a lost cat is found, and the microchip is scanned, the registry is called and the owner is contacted.
